Week 1’s TOTW: nmap

September 6, 2011

From Backtrack, type the command man nmap to access the system documentation for nmap. Find the sections below and run 1 or 2 nmap commands per section of the man page listed below. Each command should be related to the given section and executed on your local network (or at least a single computer or virtual machine).

  • Service And Version Detection
  • Os Detection
  • FIREWALL/IDS EVASION AND SPOOFING
From Blackboard, submit each nmap command along with a 2-3 sentence description of the most interesting thing you discovered while using this tool. You do not need to submit the nmap outputs, just the commands themselves.
Due: Sunday 9/11/2011 via Blackboard
